I always carry the Ten Essentials in a day pack, especially for a
longer hike, like the one Teri and I just had when we planted a
letterbox at Holy Jim Falls in Orange County, CA, the clues for which
can be found at:
http://www.terikahandesign.com/lbox/holyjim1.htm
(Had to get that shameless plug in there somewhere...)
I first learned about the Ten Essentials when I took the WTC,
(Wilderness Travel Course) with the Sierra Club. Information on the
Ten Essentials can be found at:
http://tennessee.sierraclub.org/broome/ten_essentials.htm
or
http://www.gorp.com/gorp/activity/hiking/skills/teness.htm
Hope this helps.
